If HOB had Montreal or Next on it I think it would be closer for me but I absolutely love every song on EOS, I’ve been wondering if he’ll ever top it

damn. all these years and i'm just realizing thursday ain't on HOB's level. at all

Interesting! Personally I consider Thursday a wild project, as in, like an animal that can't be tamed, put on a cage, or circus. With its beauty and rawness, its peers are few. Cause few musicians chose that path and shone that much, and made it that good, and made it look not forced, but like they did it effortlessly.
There are countless reasons to mention but I'll pick one. The Birds songs. Two polar opposites like the sun and moon, pt.1 energetic "fuck the world!", pt.2 makes you plummet inmelancholy it's almost unhealthy to listen. "...fuck the world..."

Doc McKinney is a magician! Illangelo too! But Doc with his whole live recording of guitars, not usings computer presets/synthesizer, Thursday has a Doc vibe to me!

60% of the days I know for a fact HOB is his magnum opus, better than the other mixtapes. The other 40% of the time I scratch my head in a never ending debate, "well EOS has its strong points too, has this and this and this track..." "But no, Thursday has this track, and this moment, and this melody and this instrument"... Etcetera ad infinitun...

The mixtapes are so brilliantly made, they set the bar high as f***. And the difference is so little, it's a photo finish.

2011 Weeknd was an artistic brilliance to be reckoned with.

As was discovered recently in a interview (don't remember the details, gotta see if I can find it), where a republic/livenation C-suite shared, Prince got curious what all the fuss was about them mentioning "weeknd, weeknd, weeknd" in a meeting, and when he heard Abel's mixtape(s) he smiled.

    Edit: found it

“I’ll never forget, a few weeks earlier I was with Prince and top Live Nation exec Steve Herman when he was doing a series of shows there, and everyone was talking about ‘House of Balloons,’” the Weeknd’s galvanizing debut mixtape released earlier that year. “Of course, Prince wanted to know who this Weekend was. We played him the music, and I remember him just giving that smile, you know? Prince was always competitive, always on the trigger. And during those shows, he had people opening for him like Janelle Monae and Esperanza Spaulding and Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings. Abel reminds me of Prince in the way he’s able to see what’s going to be happening in the in the culture.”
