First thing’s first - Abel’s performance was PERFECT. I don’t know how he doesn’t miss a beat at a single show. It’s truly impressive and goes to show just how talented he is. This man knows how to get a crowd going wild and his vocals are absolutely angelic live. Based off of videos from the Legend of the Fall tour, he’s improved considerably, and he was already great back then. I was singing my heart out the entire time including the additional live vocals. The people around me kept looking at me and smiling cuz they could tell how well I knew the live renditions (despite this being my first time seeing him)
However, as much as I enjoyed the performance, I have to be critical too. This was my first time seeing a concert in a stadium and probably my last. My one major gripe is that in stadiums, I feel you’re paying a premium for impersonality, as there was definitely less artist to fan engagement. I know this isn’t Abel’s fault at all since the show is so choreographed and he has to cover a large space for the duration of the show. But as someone who’s used to being right in front of the artist for the entirety of the concert, the stadium layout just didn’t hit as hard as it could have which makes me wonder how much more I would have enjoyed the original After Hours concert given the considerably smaller stage size.
All that being said, definitely worth attending, I’m glad I can finally say that I’ve seen The Weeknd live, and the show mostly lived up to my expectations. Overall rating 8/10
