You f*** with Too Late or Wasted Times more?
hmm? i'd understand it would be another retro themed project if it was an ep, but I think he's gonna switch it up.
while I agree that we probably won't ever get another weeknd album that doesn't have any mainstream pop records, I think after hours was a step in the right direction. my issue with bbtm and starboy was that it didn't feel cohesive or interesting. after hours was still cinematic while also being a pop album. I don't think he'll ever make music better than trilogy or kiss land (to me) but if he continues to release albums on the level of after hours I'll be satisfied
I mean I'm a big Scorsese fan and AH and Casino are two of my favs so I personally loved this era's aesthetic but I do agree that without the visual side this era would have been much less special. I still think kiss land was his best balance of music and visual aesthetics

visuals were lowkey mid and hella repetitive if actually think about it. like the first video with metro was fine, but next ones were just a downgrade
heartless was def the best, I also thought in your eyes was cool with the 80s slasher theme matching the 80s style music. blinding lights was a little meh and the AH short film was hardly a music video.
I don't get how Max Martin writing his pop hits like In your Eyes and Blinding lights is relevant to what Weeknd is envisioning with this era, he's not gonna repeat this image again. Also, it's not a problem to me that he's making a few chart friendly songs in an album, especially if the whole album is going to be streamed and listened to (opposite of BBTM). That's what MJ, Rick James and Prince did and now their album cuts are still listened to. On the point of producers, he's keeping the producers he's known for years so idg how that's a bad thing
The movie soundtrack of Purple Rain is more remembered than the movie itself, I'm just making a fun comment poking about it. I'm very happy in the direction Weeknd is taking since BBTM/Starboy.
You f*** with Too Late or Wasted Times more?
I think Wasted Times tbh. Too Late is fire tho
You f*** with Too Late or Wasted Times more?
Too Late always felt like a watered down Wasted Times to me
Also I still think After Hours wasn’t a good title for the album, the only song that resembled the movies ‘aesthetic’ was the title track itself

Yeah he should have just gone all in and called it Blinding Lights, used the coverart from the single.

The movie is a story where everything happens in one night, same as the album, the videos and the whole theme lol
