Not a lot of crazy new info
Kinda ridiculous that as someone who’s just become a popstar titan, he already owns his masters. But at the same time it’s not super surprising cause even when he first signed with Republic the label credits would always read XO first.
I just wonder how he had so much bargaining power when negotiating. Or maybe he re-negotiated his deal already, I feel like I remember briefly reading that. Who knows
He already blew up and actually had leverage so they couldn't screw him like they do most artists who are totally unknown before signing.
”I’m trying to find a perfect balance with the film and the music, and so far it’s going really well,” he says. “I think I might have cracked the code.”
Next album is about to the perfected formula of a cinematic masterpiece score album
The spiritual successor to Kiss Land?

That quote definitely makes it sound like that.

I wonder if the belated success of Kiss Land this year is playing in his mind too... We all saw how f***ing happy he got when it got to number 1 on the charts so recently.
That similar level of direction with his current level of resources could be amazing. Not to take anything away from After Hours, of course. But something even more intensely immersed in its own world... oof.
Exciting times to be a fan of The Weeknd, man.

It definitely is. Especially if he actually spent those 7 years believing that the fans didn't like it all that time, I can imagine him being reluctant expressing his full creative capabilities out of fears it'll get panned or whatever. I think with After Hours he took that first step towards doing that again, you know? AH is easily his most personal work behind Kiss Land, so with the success of AH, then the success of Kiss Land I like to think it opened his eyes to the fact we f***ing love when Abel goes full cinematic nerd on us or when he pours his entire heart and soul into a project.
Hopefully the Too Late video gets it popping that s*** shouldve been a single
s*** been hitting different lately
Well, MJ said he used to record 100-120 songs per album, if Abel follows this approach then we'll be in for probably his best work yet. But does he have what it takes? Time will tell
New album in summer 2021
or summer 2022 if he wants to keep the tour AH only
Cough cough
“Make sure you own your music. That’s your soul, so make sure you own it. That’s all I can really say about that.”
If that's true, mr. motherfucking starboy, release the high fidelity damn mixtapes in their original 2011 form, (not the 2012 trilogy remaster), samples and all, clean the f***ing samples, whatever the cost. This fan service is long overdue, and it's the absolute least you can do for the 10th anniversary next year.
As you say yourself, it's not about the money, it's about your legacy as a musician. I will forever keep the originally shared 2011 mp3 files, but a proper, high quality release of the 21st century standards, with all the dynamics of every moment of the songs, something which a lossy mp3 file cannot offer, but a proper high quality format can, is something a fan like me shouldn't have to ask you for.
Sincerely
a fan who sees a certain period of your career as one of his most favourite musicians.
