godspeed
A plot driven show usually starts with a clear external thing. It could be a big alien attack, could be a natural disaster. If you can replace the characters with anyone else and the main event/purpose of the movie still happens then it’s probably plot driven. In Inception if you replace Leo’s character with someone else who can do the job you’re still gonna get the wild sci fi dream/world bending heist that’s presented, which is the main driving force of the movie. Leo’s past and flaws are just extra they added to make his character more human.
A character driven show is things happening that strictly stem from the decisions the characters make. Example: Armand double books the pineapple room, Shane now makes it his mission to get the room he paid for. If you were to switch Shane with Tanya her reaction would probably be “oh thats ok. I’m just here to bury my mom’s ashes”. You now don’t have the same storyline.
So people have to understand we are moving at the pace of the characters. There is no major event to speed things up.
Also usually the main thing in plot driven stories is usually bigger on scale. Whereas character driven stuff seems smaller.
Example: NIGHTCRAWLER. On paper it’s about a guy filming crime scenes to sell to the news. Doesn’t seem that major right? Pretty normal ass job. But what makes it great is how Lou’s character goes about the job. Tampering with crime scenes. Moving dead bodies. Setting up crimes to happen so he can catch it on tape. Those all stem from his characters decisions that only he would’ve made.
Compare that to “all the big ass dinosaurs are free and we have to try and survive”. Surviving from dinosaurs is the MAIN EVENT. That’s what you signed up to watch. It could be any character at Jurrasic Park and we’ll still watch to specifically see people running away from dinosaurs. Nightcrawler couldn’t be any character, if you swap out Lou and make Bill Paxtons character the lead you now have a completely different movie.

Very well articulated on both posts
Can we also talk about how Cristobal is making his MBDTF with the music score this season
What do you mean? Like my favorite shows?
Ya
I think this season hits different because this is my first time watching live week by week. So the anticipation each week is high.
And with S1 I randomly put it on while hanging with my grandma. I had no idea what to expect, it was random as f***, so my interest wasn’t all there with wondering “who gets killed”. It really hit for me when Armond started going on a d*** binge and wilding.
Right after I binged S2 because it was also out when I started this series BUT I had already been spoiled that Tanya dies. So watching S2 I still enjoyed it but I didn’t have that anticipation of finding out who gets killed either.
But this season, this season is the one. No spoilers, watching week by week, no idea what’s gonna happen next!
Now….i have a theory and something I noticed today….
This could be a complete reach but…. The 9th character shown always dies!
And I’m referring to the main characters.
In S1:
In order we see: Shane, Rachel, Quinn, Paula, Olivia, Tanya, Mark and Nicole. And then 9th is Armond. Now he is standing with his crew and out of them Id say Belinda is a main character also. But Armond is the main focus and the person we hear.
In S2:
In order we see: Daphne, Valentina, Ethan, Harper, Cam, Albie, Dom and Bert. 9th person we see is Tanya.
S3 is a little tricky for two reasons.
1. I don’t think we’d count Belinda’s son as a main character? He hasn’t been in any episodes yet except the opening.
2. Let’s say we don’t count him. In order we see: Belinda, Tim, Victoria, Rick, Chelsea, Laurie, Jaclyn and Kate. But for 9 we see Saxon, Piper and Lochlan together.
Now if we’re mimicking S1, then Saxon is on the far left like Armond was. But yeah, idk. This is probably a big reach and pure coincidence. But for some reason I noticed S1 and S2 had this in common. So who knows maybe one of the kids is who ends up getting killed this season?

The wire is extremely low
dude from berry?
Nah but I need that Cristobal to show up with the Russians here in White Lotus
Post yours too fam
I don’t rly have a list rn
The wire is extremely low
Tbh those first 16 are all first ballot hall of famers 10/10, so it’s really just slight personal preference — it’s not like I’d put The Wire any less than a 10/10

Okay that’s facts
I’ll say this time and time again: if you watch White Lotus for the plot, you are completely missing the point of the show.
Yall are missing the point & need to get off your high horse, watching the White Lotus doesn’t equate to watching a f***in Pasolini movie, it ain’t that deep.
And this is coming from someone who, like I wrote, loves S1 and 2, I’d put them in my top 10 - 15 shows ever.
I mean, The Leftovers are my fav f***in show OAT.
La Grande Bellezza is my fav movie ever.
So, I love my slow, character driven shows and movies.
But White is neither really developing the characters here, nor advancing the plot significantly in the past few episodes.
I’m planning to do a rewatch of this episode soon anyhow, but as of right now, I’m not putting this season above any of the previous two
