anti-vaxxers existed before this but i think they didnt have a lot of cultural capital and they didnt have a marginal effect on reality. with covid anti-vaxxers, there's like, actual stakes. sure things like not getting the mumps vaccine or something had some level of real world effect, but anti-vaxxers as a whole embody like opposition to what is probably the biggest zeitgeist in the world atm, the stakes are way higher than refusing a vaccine that at best just gets your family banned from going to public school or something
