I think the weekend is in a different lane. it's be more accurate I think to say James blake because of the etherealness, but I can't hate this take.

    THAT NIGGA DREAM GOT SLAPPERS

Facts. His early sound, his voice (plus MJ of course), him starting out writing reference tracks for other artists (Noise EP), and even down to his name. They even had twitter beef about it where The Weeknd called The Dream a hamburglurar lookin ass nigga

The-dream started the whole 6+ minute long songs, that didn’t follow the same verse chorus verse structure

The-dream even called him out on “form of flattery” which was released a week after Thursday came out

The song Fancy birthed The Weeknd lmao

I've always seen The Weeknd as sort of a combination of Kid Cudi emo/druggy vibes and The-Dream musically, with some of his own stuff in there. Was The-Dream ever doing any of that shoegaze/dream-poppy type stuff outside of Fancy? I haven't listened to him in forever

Yeah bro he was! he had so many songs on the lines of party and the after party and hob/glass table girls

    He had:

    fancy (cult classic)
February love (very similar to Fancy)
    Mr. yeah
    Priceless
    Cry
    Abyss

And a lot of un released tracks like cry that i can’t think off. I literally became a Weeknd fan because I considered him a better upgraded version of The-dream. The Weeknd was definitely more darker and interesting lyrics wise tho for sure
