Gotta be honest, I really hate that Thee Sacred Souls song. There's a Youtube channel/label for a bunch of these old sounding soul songs by contemporary artists/bands. And while yes they aren't inherently bad, they just feel like such soulless novelties of nostalgia. It always leaves questioning "Do y'all really like making this kinda music?"
Leon Bridges used to be apart of that channel/label and as soon as he started gaining more popularity he instantly started making the exact kinda music he was looking to make and it's been so much better for him.

I think their are artists who can do the throwback country fried soul sound really well and not have it come off as forced, Yola immediately comes to mind, but they are few and far between and like you said, their doesn't need to be a million of these bands.
