Abel wouldve made it without Drake for sure but Drake really introduced the Weeknd to the world.

Drake even did a label deal at Warner instead under YM just to try to get the Weeknd to sign with OVO Sound.

When Abel did not take the deal Drake reflected that on his situation. Because he was loyal to Wayne instead on signing directly to a major.

This is one of the reasons why he does minimal stuff for the artists on OVO sound I think.
