That's crazy, we learned about the middle passage read biographies of slaves and learned that basically without slavery America wouldn't exist
We didn't learn much about colonialism in the Caribbean tho. Or about how Europe divided up Africa and pit African civilizations against east other
Prob coz US history is basicslly only slavery
Most districts already teach about colonialism, the genocide of the American Natives and slavery
Most of the modern atrocities caused by American hegemony really involve some pretty complicated geopolitical knowledge and would never make it as a core part of the history curriculum
You could get an entire major let alone take a class on american/European imperialism and it's impact on the modern world
I think you're right it's hard to cram all of that into one class mixed with the rest of history. It might make sense to make a separate class on this topic. You could argue that much of what is covered in history is largely irrelevant compared to the topic of imperialism tho.
No cap I think we literally spent more time in my high school American history class discussing Eli Whitney and the cotton gin than actual slaves and slavery.
lmao what do they teach british kids? the knights of the round table?
they tell us everything and it seems like every teacher and professor gets paid extra for how bad they make America look
Americans absolutely love s***ting on their own country so they don't hold back discussing the dark times of America's history
Already signed but I was taught the basics of slavery in school (although I wonder if that’s because I went to a majority black school), I definitely agree this needs to be taught in much more detail throughout the education system - imagine the change of perspectives of kids in terms of race relations
Cause people like these are gonna get triggered
!https://youtu.be/3vBTmyCDzeIHotep Jesus interview was amazing fym
There is so much s*** they don't tell us that would make history class a lot more meaningful. For instance, I didn't know about the Japanese internment camps in California until college. Very, very important info for teaching kids about how effective the media can be at utilizing euphemisms to further a political agenda.
That terrible 1619 project got picked up by schools. Get ready for libs to somehow get this wrong.
How about we stop teaching about the meaningless past and fix the s*** we got now!!!!!!!!!!!! Stole reinforcing these f***ing ideals into children’s minds and move forward!!!!!!
Who gives a f*** about history!
Has anything ever been achieved through change.org? I feel like every time people sign a petition, it just goes into a void.
I’ve signed a couple and I’ve gotten follow up emails about what has happened since. But idk if it’s cuz of the petition or because it was just finna happen anyways lol
