It's mainly referring to how 30+ rappers are carrying the genre now quality and mainstream wise and how there's an utter lack of rappers under 30 who are on their way to becoming GOAT's or even having crossover success.

That said, the narrative has always been exaggerated. Hip Hop always had certain small periods of being in a slump. Also, Pop and Rock also suffer from having OG's carrying their genres like Taylor, Beyonce, Coldplay, etc.

Plus, people don't want to listen to the full scope of the genre anymore. Niggas want every great rap act to start becoming a huge mainstream act and put out smash hits when that's not everyone's lane.

Overall, mainstream rap ain't in the best place quality wise but still has plenty of commercial success overall.

Should be noted too that the narrative started getting pushed heavily when Drake dissed Megan on Her Loss 2 years ago and articles like this started blowing up shortly after.

Make of that what you will.

As long as the queens still here, hip hop is alive and well.

    This too.

The potential those 3 had is one of hip hop's biggest What If moments.

It means billboard & "radio" when its that context @op

If youre not a label or a stock owner it does not matter to you unless you really care about numbers

Rap has kinda moved back underground outside of the already really popular rappers that been aroind a decade

The fact that hip hop requires 30+ year old rappers with kids to beef and gossip to carry the genre is pretty damning lol

Even then, like any required the avengers teaming up to diss the biggest rapper in the world

And Kanye, well, we all saw the 25 minute rant about Jewish people and French hospitals as his rollout promo

"outside of already really popular rappers that been around a decade"

Future, Metro, Kendrick, Kanye, and Ty Dolla fit that criteria.

That's like saying GRODT shouldn't count towards hip hop's dominance because it came off a beef with Ja Rule.

It's crazy how people are acting like rap battles are a brand new thing in the genre lmao.
