    Address with the polite form, but that's not a thing in English. Don't know if it's something Dutch, but we have a difference in "you" when addressing older people. It's common decency.

    actually trying to distance from that, I have it in my language too. it reads veeery passive aggressive if there's not a significant age difference between speakers. other than that its just very awkward so I go for 'you' singular unless its elders

    Don't agree, but maybe that's a difference in language. I do it mostly for elderly people as well.
