Correlation isn't the same as causation, and when the trend has been ongoing throughout the last decade, literally anything increasing will be correlated with it. In terms of diagnoses of depression, its impossible to remove that from the changing social perspective on seeing a therapist that has occurred throughout the last decade.

in regards to Point 3, I have mixed feelings. Yeah, fake news is bad but people already made s*** up to fix their perspective. I don't think people change their beliefs through seeing news or finding new facts, they either disregard them or use them to justify their preexisting beliefs. Additionally, plenty of 'real' news is propaganda for the state or PR for some company

I also disagree with the notion that political tensions or racial division (or, using a better descriptor, racism) have been increased by social media. if anything, it has given people a voice who have never been able to have one before, exposing tensions. In every other era of history, national discourse has been run/controlled by a very small group of people, who deemed what ideas had merit.
