People often wanna help but have no clue how and when someone's finally opened up and decided to talk they realize it's too much for them to deal with and leave the other person hanging. That only reinforces the feeling they likely already have of being a burden and having nobody. So best to not jump into it if you're not prepared to actually be there for them. Talking with suicidal people about their issues is not easy.

Can really depend on which one you call and who picks up the phone. They're usually not intended for long term help, but to get people out of current danger like self harm/suicide attempts. Some do discuss longer term plans and options. Just like with irl therapy some therapists are better at connecting with their clients than others.
