Video is incredible. A lot of people started to turn on it, but that s*** was insane when it dropped and people couldn’t stop talking about it
Obviously the lyrics aren’t anything special, but the video was always supposed to be the main appeal for that track
Also the production on that song is INSANE
Also a music video hasn’t had a bigger impact since then, but no one will want to admit that

Music videos as an art form are kinda in the 2020s (not entirely, but for the most part) so i'd have to agree
On some level i just don't care about music videos at all these days
I miss the blog era, i miss the DIY/lower budget/more involved era
The worst part about this song and video is he kind of fumbled the rollout after this
He had this song and video and also Feel Like Summer which to me was an amazing moment in itself
Then he had the film with Rihanna which I think brought the music together well, it had Saturday and a great version of Feel Like Summer and all that
But then he didn’t do an album with that and waited until the untitled/Atavista project. And included Feel Like Summer but not a lot of the other stuff that helped build that era. Very weird and jarring. And I still like Atavista for what it is but I adore the Guava Island set of tracks

i think this is around the time his dad passed if i remember him right plus on top of that he was doing Atlanta / Lion King / Star Wars
bro was all over the place

Yeah I get it, there’s always circumstances around things like this but it’s still a shame artistically
I think this single would’ve held up better if it was included on an album, Guava Island deserved more shine and honestly if he was able to put that together with all the music in it I wish he just dropped the album together with that film to put more of a stamp on it
I feel like no one even really engaged with the film like that in real time, which is sad too. I hold it really high.
Good song
I don’t like symbolism (in the video and broadly speaking) although I agree with the sentiments put forward
It’s obviously not literally the same but it has the same air of corniness as the marvel movie Easter egg fan service end credits scene kind of stuff that’s so on the nose
Its just so obvious and boring, everything is spoon fed
But yeah I like the song
Cool social trending moment
Dope statement moment
Nice video art
But the song itself is a one listen classic
Cacs were bumping ts like they solved racism
