You can also right click open an image/gif as an image in a separate tab to isolate itself to embed

This site would have to be a gallery site if you wanted to upload directly to the site, but it isn't, so you have one short extra step of copy pasting an address

imageboards dont store images but its a diff forum engine altogether

Major places don't really remove files anymore such as imgur and reddit - I know there's photos I uploaded to imgur that still exist on ktt1 and still exist in old threads of mine from 2020 that get bumped every now n then

Older sites like photobucket would tho (there are a few others nowadays but they're not that popular, the deletion is part of the reason)

There are a few sites that also delete anonymous upload

But there's no reason to do that anymore because the major sites are basically infinite and take the burden off of smaller sites while allowing higher quality, more items and near permanence - also embedding is as simple as copy pasting in most cases, which was more complicated and more unique website to website to embed back then

Bit off topic, but now we have some sites the opposite that suck d***, like Reddit doesn't let you embed their uploaded photos to other sites and it's on purpose so you post direct links or go through a whole transfer that adds to their traffic and ad viewing

Imgur and Imgbb are the simplest tho the internet has been, and they both keep files basically "infinitely" even for free/anonymous/not signed in site visitors - and they work with almost everything with only a very few niche fringe cases - and their upload time is near instant

Lol imgur literally just did a massive purge like 2 years ago where everything uploaded prior to that date by an unregistered user was deleted. Your stuff survived because you have an account but lots of images from old ktt and other sites like reddit are just gone now

• so unless i just got lucky, they targeted very large files, or its was overstated by how much they purged then idk why my 2019 and 2022 photos plus more on ktt1 and ktt2 are still up lol

and my overall point still stands about how easy and how long the two modern media hosting sites, imgur and imgbb, are today and at the best the internet has been so far for general users
