first things first f*** Eric Clapton
as my interest in Grateful Dead has recently been reignited by a series of random events, I was browsing wikipedia and stumbled across an old Rolling Stones list titled '100 greatest album covers'. that said, Blind Faith was an old UK rock band formed by Eric Clapton and some dudes. their only 1969 self-titled album features a photo of an 11-year old nude girl as an album cover.
thats about as much as I wanna go into this. this isnt gonna be no investigative think piece, or a thorough report, nothing of sorts. but I was surprised to find no discussion online about it, figured its because there's been so much f***ed up s*** in that period of music that this just may have been lost in time. but ill dig it up, its a story.
there's an article about it on wikipedia, with highlights including
The cover was considered controversial, with some seeing the model airplane also featured on the cover as potentially phallic.
the photographer comments:
To symbolize the achievement of human creativity and its expression through technology a spaceship was the material object. To carry this new spore into the universe, innocence would be the ideal bearer, a young girl, a girl as young as Shakespeare's Juliet. <...> If she were too old it would be cheesecake, too young and it would be nothing. The beginning of the transition from girl to woman, that is what I was after. That temporal point, that singular flare of radiant innocence.
this one is a goddamn DOOZY so proceed with caution (your day might be ruined)
Seidemann wrote that he approached a girl, reported to be 14 years old, on the London Underground, asking her to model for the cover. He eventually met her parents, but she proved to be too old for the effect he wanted. Instead, the model he used was her younger sister, Mariora Goschen, who was reported to be 11 years old. Goschen recalled that she was coerced into posing for the picture. "My sister said, 'They’ll give you a young horse. Do it!'" She was instead paid £40.
Commercially, the album charted at number one in both the US and the UK.
what was that about Rolling Stones greatest covers of all time list from 1991 you ask? they had Blind Faith by Blind Faith at #7
German band The Scorpions has an even worse cover
oh we dont talk about THAT one
I wish I never looked that up.
Yep, that is a sexualized 11 year old.
Wild how this is like, still up on Apple Music and s*** like it's no big deal

kiss aint my problematic faves for nothing
i’m not even into this music that much, but yes there was a lot of discussion about this cover, even today
So the whole “Tears in Heaven” situation was karma, then?
should've been Clapton
Every day I learn Eric Clapton is a worse human being
whenever someone mentions karma I instantly think about D*** Cheney and Eric Clapton still being alive
if i look up this band will i be on a list.
It’s bad, but it’s not THAT bad.
The Scorpion’s album cover will 100% have you on a list though
