Depends on the subject.
Most social and political issues are just differences of opinion. You don't need to read a book to speak about your opinion on something. Reading may change your opinion on something however and the knowledge can help back your opinion with historical facts.
By your logic most shouldn't vote since they're ignorant about who they are voting for.

Could argue that because a significant number of people didn't vote, Trump won. There's a reason why he doesn't want people to be able to mail in their votes and trust that "fraud" ain't it.
But I get your point, but that isn't the answer. People just need to be more informed, but obviously the govt doesn't want that. Would be harder to manipulate the masses if we actually knew how things go down.
