Personally I am not a guy who likes to play the role of happy family just because it’s a holiday or event going on. I haven’t been in contact with my dad for the majority of my life and it’s been pretty normal for me. I really don’t try to harbor resentment towards him but when people in my family tell me that I’m “disrespecting my father” by not talking to him it really pisses me off. I don’t honestly care to lie to him or myself by making a big display when I have already adapted to living without him. even for the majority of my family that I do speak with, it gets to a point where I would prefer to just live a life without them.
a select few I have a strong bond with but for the majority, it’s kinda “fuck em” for me.

Maybe i’m just a selfish or emotionally immature person but I’m honestly just starting to feel like they want me to play a role in their lives and family dynamic that just doesn’t benefit me bc the s*** is not real.

not sure if anyone can relate to the feeling of just wanting to go AWOL on your family members and lead your life without them.

people gonna come into this thread acting like you’re a terrible person but you gotta do you man, not everybody can actually have a positive family dynamic unless people WANT to change. Life can’t be a fairytale in every aspect either. I for one am not for the people pleasing s*** anymore, it’s getting old

I was estranged from a bit. I think it both helped me but also kind of left some negative marks.

I often think about just cutting off my parents again, I feel like I have to wear a mask whenever I'm around them and play pretend. It's mainly my racist/bigoted/traumatized alcoholic dad just being a trash person and abusing my mom mentally
