In general, I'd say it almost always a bad idea. Unless the producers, themes, types of songs are similar, people will always dislike the sequel because of the fan attachment to the original. Almost always feels like a way to garner interest back after a fall off or plateau when there is no intention of trying to produce something that is a logical progression from the original. Moreso for albums, mixtapes are a different bag completely. I'd rather get a newly named / branded work than what feels like a cashgrab most times.
ELE2 & SM2 both fye sooo
NC2 def shoulda had another name tho

MMLP2 was a big decline (not even a bad album but like, really coulda been named different unless he changed like 80% of the tracklist). LUVTW2 is literally just a mixtape of loosies when the first was a cohesive tape with a love story throughline (I'd consider this more an album than a mixtape). Most of the 90s rappers late attempts at the sequels pale in comparison to the OG (not even bad projects but very mixed in quality).
sonic adventure 3 needs to be released
Half of Sonic Generations out now!

this is true though
most sequels shouldn’t be sequels
one that really pissed me off was when Gunna dropped DOD2, the sequel to the first Drip Or Drown, a collab tape with Wheezy, and DOD2 wasn’t a collab tape with Wheezy for some reason

That actually made no f***ing sense I remember seeing the credits and being so confused first time. Should have cut like 40% of the songs too but thats a different issue completely lol
I feel like artists can do sequels, don't just slap a 2 at the end. Have a name that kind of implies it's similar to the first one and make it clear you're continuing the theme or story and all. It's super risky to follow up a classic, especially with the same exact name cuz the expectations are way too high.
ik this is prob about motm3 and i’m a little concerned too. for years cudi was saying he’ll never make it cause it could never live up to the first 2 and i feel like that’s so valid. no matter how good it is he can’t recapture the feelings of those old albums and it’ll always just seem tacked on. maybe i should just wait and see though
C5 came out 7 years after the last and it was kinda ass
Ehhhh due to the legacy and story behind that release I am okay with that one. Wasn't Waynes fault it couldnt drop, and he finally did end up dropping most of the OG too on the Deluxe so I'd say thats an acceptable sequel situation

I agree, for example: Illmatic and Stillmatic
Nas didn't call it Illmatic 2. Both albums stood on their own merit.

Perfect example
Busta Rhymes ELE2 out October 30th!
On a serious note though, yeah at times they can be quick cash grabs, but if they're good it's whatever
I was skeptical about Purple Haze 2, but that ended up being a very solid addition to Cam'ron's discography.

MMLP 2 is nowhere near the first but it's probably his best album post Relapse
I'm sure drake one day will drop albums titled
as sequels to album 1 and 3. idk what a take care sequel would be titled
OBFCL2- Borderline classic
MMLP2- Decent, but not great
Documentary 2 & 2.5- Surpringsly great
SM2- Excellent
Detroit 2- Ehhhhhhh

For me it depends. If it's a trap artist I don't really care about it even being that similar to the original, it's a lot easier to keep track of the names.
If it's not from a trap artist, then it often ends up feeling like a fake way to generate hype through nostalgia, and even if it turns out well, to put it in the words of what another user said, it feels tacked on. I don't think this is the case when it's released a year or two after the first tho
