I'm not sure if this goes on politics, life or music sxn but i would like to hear an actual discussion
ppl are trying to boycott Spotify after finding out about all the s***ty acts they make with users money (investing in AI, accepting ICE ads and giving money to israel) AND the poor treatment to their artists
with this being said, while i've been diving into the alternatives, it seems like there is no actual escape from companies doing evil s***:
people recommend YT music while YouTube is also accepting ICE ads and sharing actions with Israel
Apple uses child and slave labor to make their phones (thus being a reason to not use Apple Music)
Tidals CEO has donated money to self described zionists and supports genocide etc
is ethical consumption genuinely impossible to achieve nowadays?
wtf do we do if we don't agree to any of these actions but these services are the most convenient and user friendly?
It's always been f*** Spotify regardless of the argument
If you really want to be anti-establishment, steal music or use bandcamp
your last sentence answers your own questions lmfao
get out of your need to never feel inconvenienced and the need to get that quick hit of joy from convenience at the cost of morale and you’ll start seeing the world in clearer view
D2C and old school hand to hand exchange (but digitized) is the only way to avoid these problems aside from pirating or free downloads/purchasing from artists websites
change title to 'streaming' boycott to reflect the content of ur post n im w u. otherwise ppl jus gonna devolve this thread into a myopic brand loyalty / aversion thing
qobuz the only service im switched to rn that seems ethically ok, but thats ofc subject to change. but i dont think ppl care as much as they let on
piracy / bandcamp / direct online~physical purchase is the obvious wave
i respect boycotts if they are truly fr
like u boycott all streaming services not only spotify... for their horrible ways
but boycotting spotify because u saw a tweet about how they support horrible things but still use other streaming services that support those things its dumb as hell and means u are performative af
you know who is about to stink up this thread acting like he’s a superior human being for not using streaming services

Boycotts aren’t about ethical consumption but about applying economic pressure on targets
If you want to meaningfully participate in social movements, the minimum thing you can do is inconvenience yourself a bit for the sake of a BDS movement
spotify is bad apple is bad, just use what you want
ethical consumption doesn't exist and i do try to avoid certain things/products if i can but i also dont care if someone else doesn't do the same
I see a near future where most artists revert to direct to consumer and I’m all for it
i pay for my familys spotify i would hate to take that away from them
Do it for the lore

Hell yeah
You will own nothing :)

meeeeeeee
It’s practically impossible but always try to not give your money to evil ass companies. And Spotify is one of them ones
