Where Iβm From knocks in the whip
Came in here to say this, the mix is phenomenal
The bass is so loud yet so crisp, Dre really just needs to open up the vault
Disappointed with the Toomp production but enjoyed the album more than I thought I would. Not sure how long itβll be in rotation but Iβm glad there are a couple joints I can see myself coming back to
For as many different producers as there on the album I agree with a lot of people here that the production is very same-y. Like why is Toomp of all people using those hi-hats on How It Went
Listened to this today at the gym and honestly not really much going here. It sort of just washes over you
Finally did my first listen! I'm probably one of the biggest T.I. fans ever, so here's my track by track review.
1. A King's Thought - N/A
2. See Wh'am Sayin' - 3.25/5. It's okay. Disappointing Toomp production. Kinda low-key for an album opener. Wish he opened with something with more energy.
3. Let 'Em Know - 4/5. I was happy this blew up for him. It's pretty simple, but also has a classic T.I. sound go it.
4. Where I'm From - 4.25/5. I imagine Dem Jointz did most of this beat. That's his girl Stallone singing at the beginning. But it does have Dr. Dre thumbprints on it. It's dope! Bangs in the whip.
5. Rant - 4/5. Got a classic Tip vibe to it. I like it!
6. Mr. Him - 3.75/5. It's cool for a single, but not as good as Let Em Know.
7. How It Went - 3/5. Probably the most boring song on the album. I can't believe this is Toomp again. Toomp did some of the worst songs on here??
8. Dope Boys Academy - 4/5. It sounds kinda mid 2000s, but it's still dope. Jeezy absolutely slid on here.
9. Pistol on the Dance Floor - 3.25/5. I was excited about this title, but I don't like it very much. I could see it being popular though.
10. And Won't - 3.5/5. I can appreciate it for what it is. I can see it being a summer hit. I hope it blows up for him and gives the album some staying power. It'll be popular in Atlanta skate rinks.
11. Gorgeous - 2.75/5. Tip & Usher are somehow WOAT collaborators lol. You can argue this song, My Life/Your Entertainment & At Ya Own Risk (3 collabs) are the worst songs on their respective albums lol.
12. We On - 3.75/5. It's kinda fun.
13. LLOGCLAY - 4.5/5. I don't care it's old. It's dope! Tip verse is very touching. Love this song.
14. Ego - 3.75/5. I wish this was longer. It has potential to be a good song.
15. Trauma Bond - 4/5. It's grown on me. Hook/beat is dope.
16. Represent A Time - 3.5/5. It's alright. Love that Organized Noise did the beat and Young Dro verse is dope.
17. Big Dog - 3.25/5. Not really for me but I appreciate how different it is. Buddy Red influence.
18. Continental - 4.75/5. Arguably the best song on the album. Great closer. Juicy J on the beat!
I think we have a deluxe coming with another 5-10 songs.
Where I'm From is a good record, I just don't know if I like the beat on it. I love Anderson .Paak man. π
I'm hearing MR HIM for the first time, sounds a lil dated but I'd turn up to this if I heard it out tbh
This not the type of bop I was expecting on DOPE BOYS ACADEMY. It's aight. 2 Chainz never disappoints on a feature.
I just don't think "and won't" is a good enough phrase to base a hook around and it's ruining the song for me, cause otherwise Tip is flowing and it's a nice catchy beat lol
