My issue is that on this site TikTok gets mentioned and 10 people come in to say “data, culture, mental health”. That doesn’t happen for the other social media platforms. I’m entirely aware that TikTok is terrible for tracking, that it like all other social media platforms exacerbates societal issues and causes mental health problems. But I think everyone is aware of that we’ve just learned to accept that it’s the nature of social media. I don’t understand why TikTok is viewed as some exception to this

On all social media the surface level stuff is hot garbage, tiktok has a s*** ton of content, it’s impossible to not get the algorithm showing u cool s*** when it starts to understand what u like

The most liked and engaged with threads on this site are gossip and toxicity and site drama. That’s the nature of what happens when you let engagement be the driver of content. My thing is that that’s 100% valid but that is the case with every social media platform. That’s why we have clickbait and why we have misinformation and mental health issues. It’s not any one platform it’s social media by nature
