it absolutely doesn’t man that is not how statistics work it’s absurd to even make that claim

Look at the trend in suicide rates

TikTok didn’t even exist in 2017 and only became popular around lockdown last year

Hold up there's a newer chart I saw.

Teen suicide rates spiked the last year, TikTok definitely has something to do with that bro.

And I'm not arguing against that. Everyone can be toxic on social media, TikTok is just the absolute bare worst of it.

Then WHY are teens depressed more than ever?

Also, I'd like for everyone to check out this NPR podcast on this issue:

lol Facebook has congressional hearings about data privacy bro it’s only not being talked about getting banned cause it’s American

Cause the billboard was great before?

Like I said - this is what happens with algorithm driven social media

    https://www.wsj.com/articles/are-instagrams-algorithms-racially-biased-theyre-looking-into-it-11595556873

    https://www.nbcnews.com/tech/tech-news/facebook-management-ignored-internal-research-showing-racial-bias-current-former-n1234746

    https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2020/sep/21/twitter-apologises-for-racist-image-cropping-algorithm

most of the congressional hearings about facebook was about the 2016 election and how the russians used it to sway the election moreso than facebook itself (again, not defending facebook f*** them too)

and billboard was never perfect, but i don’t think it never as much talentless “artists” (and im using artists very loosely) as much in the tik tok era.

and nobody is saying the algorithms on other media in terms of race are good lol, again it’s just tik tok is the worst

Results showed 67% of participants reported feeling worse about their own lives because of social media. Further, 73% felt pressured to post content that boosted their appearance to others, 60% felt pressured to tailor content for popularity and likes and 80% reported being affected by social media drama. However, 73% reported feeling supported on social media through challenges or tough times, 53% felt more connected to their friends’ feelings and 93% felt more connected to their friends’ lives.

    because of social media lmao
if anything TikTok is less damaging because it doesn’t actively cause you to compare yourself to people you know since it’s more like YouTube or vine w creators you don’t know personally

No s*** it’s social media lol

It’s just ridiculous to say that TikTok is causing a spike in the suicide rate

As far as I can tell 2020 suicide rates are not even released so I got no idea where you even got that from

I can see it being an app for coping, but at the same time it's definitely f***ed up alot of their mental health.

I think we can all reach a middle ground in this debate here: TikTok is horrible but Twitter is even worse

What makes TikTok the worst? How is that even remotely quantifiable?

And in regards to Facebook - apple are releasing a new iOS update that directly shows you exactly how much apps are tracking you. Ironically Facebook are extremely opposed and are trying to sue apple. So we’ll see then which app is worse
