LR is the best Kanye album easily imo, it's like he took the recipe for College Dropout and tweaked it to be suitable for stadiums (that's kinda the idea for graduation i know but LR is larger than life so many tracks) . higher highs, much more pop sensibility and raw emotional moments

the first 3 albums and then mbdtf all built on each other

  • LR top 2 Ye album. What a classic

  • great post. thank you :)

    160-180 tracks

Nowadays rappers just have a rotation of 808, kick, hi hat, sample, synth, piano, guitar, drum wtf

And there’s nothing wrong with that

Yeah but I don’t think it’s because we’re not putting enough instruments in our music lol

Add Spinz 808 and call it a day

Very well could be. The less instrumentation, the less chance to even learn that your voice can sound different on 3 different mics on the same song. Or maybe instead of using an electronic synth guitar, we get a real guitar player to play the same melody with this guitar plugged into this amplifier so we get this specific sound and can make multiple beats in this specific pocket, which creates something new.

LR is the seed of everything for me.

nothing comes close to it except tpab which is also is the vein of similar influences, just trade out the orchestral for funk. while still having the jazz and soul elements. while both STILL keep it very rap on top of it.

rap has never been as grand and majestic while feeling effortless and smooth. even in other genres it barely exisats if its not of the purely instrumental project corner.

very special albums that raised the bar for every genre. the only people that come close or peek in the same vein is the roots, which is a whole rap group and band in an orchestra-like ensemble.

so high skill while still keeping it very grounded.

It might be my fav Ye album to me now. It's usually incredibly hard for me to pinpoint my fav album, because his first 6 albums are undeniably 10/10 classics imo.

But with Late Registration, the orchestration of the sound is so elegant that it's hard to even compare to other rap albums besides TPAB (or possibly Flower Boy, but I would say that's moreso leaning towards Pharrell's influence.)

    @Water_Giver @Mitchell

Musically in my head, I'm overthinking decisions of either sounding like a blend between MOTM1-2 Cudi and Clones-era Neptunes or sounding like LR Ye and Flower Boy Tyler.

    Leaning on the latter

When Ye said in the Jeen-yuhs documentary, he wanted to be the bridge between Rawkus and the Roc.

I lowkey want to be the bridge between the Star Trak/Odd Future (Pharrell, Chad, and Tyler) and GOOD (Ye, Cudi, and Trav.)

Those sounds aren’t worlds apart you can definitely find a dope way to do both that goes together and have distinctive blends of both fasho

    180 Tracks?!?!?

I assume a lot of it was Brandy's vocal stacks and orchestral layers - depending on how big orchestra was could've been 10+ layers easy per instrumemt

It’s crazy cause it doesn’t have to be I could throw a dude in IG or tiktok $5-$20 just by searching the hashtag of that instrument/amplifier and there’s bound to be someone out there with it practicing. S***s funny
