Artist hailing from Rio De Janiero, Brazil. The man got his start in the industry as 1/2 of the Brazilian Rock duo Tony & Frankeye from the late 1960s to early 70s. The duo met at a nightclub that exclusively played Soul music. Frankeye previously had a band at the time known as Top Five. Bizarro caught the attention of Frankeye and the rest is history. After releasing singles with the period(68-70) they released their succesful sole, self titled debut album in 1971. Over time, the duo split due to Frankeye wanting a break from music lead to both becoming songwriters/producers for others.
Tony Bizarro unfortunately has a small discography. Consisting of Nesse Iverno(1977), Uma Vez E Outra Vez(1991), Estou Livre(2012) and a whole bunch of compactos(singles) scattered throughout the years. Dude is immensely talented and has a knack for lush, soulful arrangements. Whether he's inspired by Stax or Electro Funk, Bizzaro knows how to make sure to keep his Brazilian roots intact. There are elements of Bossa Nova and Samba, showcasing appreciation of his culture. Lyrical content deals with romance, sensuality, and at times tributes(Ex. Adeus Amigo Vagabundo)
One of the finest Brazilian singers I have ever had the pleasure hearing. He has such a raspy, deeply passionate voice that carries the enchanting, tropical soundscapes of Brazilian Soul/Funk. He sounds very similar to Eddie Levert and Bobby Womack but a bit more soothing, colorful flavor to his vocality. A pioneer, Tony Bizarro was apart of the 1st wave Black Rio movement. A movement that was inspired by American soul and funk music. Which brought Brazilians their increased exposure to American Funk/Soul music.
Special shout out to my Afro Brazilians and to an extent the entire Brazilian diaspora. Much love to ya'll.
