I think sales are a decent rough indicator if youre comparing the artist's numbers to the game as a whole
like an album that sells 200K FW is more likely than not better than an album that goes triple styrofoam. but even then theres plenty of exceptions. like I'm taking SRS or AWT over some of these albums

The CD/iTunes era was so insane for artists looking to make money
I remember a few years back it came out that Pharrell only made $2700 off of 43 million streams of Happy, algorithm's probably improved since then but CDs were a whole different deal
If I saw this knowing not much about rap I would have to conclude rappers aren't the best at picking album covers
(being a bronesque hip-hop historian i can confirm that this is true)
