    i dont understand this taste

from a lot of interviews n articles ive watched/read, it feels like most artists create music that's generally different than the music they personally listen to / feel inspired by

Kendrick’s top 25 albums are all rap

his favorite song is Ghetto Boy and here’s how he describes it

Lil’ Ghetto Boy’ was crazy because of the storytelling, and I do a lot of storytelling in this album. I really pattern… Like I listen to my album and how it’s broken down to 12 songs. It really kind of shapes and forms into an album like that. Just with the storytelling and what represents the city today and kids around the world today.

have you heard anyone talk down on Kendrick’s rap ability knowing all he listens to is rap? i bet Drake’s list would be similar to Kendrick’s, same with Cole. these niggas are rappers and came up a specific way with the desire to always show love and respect to hiphop when given the chance. Travis Scott is a rapper who wanted to sing to white folks lol. Love him, but I’d never name Portishead as defining any aspect of my life

  • Mark Moschino

all the picks make sense to me lol

he’s become a walking billboard so anything he says or does feels disingenuous

he’s a marketing machine so everything that’s attached to the name is gonna feel faux especially when we’re in a time where so many people are questioning late stage capitalism

If you watch his early interviews where he talks about what kinda music he likes this list isn’t that surprising

this album artist and cover been so influential to rap lmfao do we forget that kraftwork a german electronic band planted the seeds for modern hip hop production? the entire genre is built of REINTERPRETING OTHER GENRES THROUGH SAMPLES.

Ngl its damn near racist to say a rapper can only describe their life through rap albums and this is why niggas be like im an artist not a rapper. not saying its right but thats def why that happens

You can be inspired by so many different sources. Just because you create one thing doesn’t mean that that one thing is or should be your main source of inspiration. Look at Hideo Kojima

Good point, people forget the basis of hip-hop is taking other sources and reimagining them in a hip-hop context. With that in mind, it would make sense that a rapper’s favorite stuff would be music in other genres because that is what’s informing their choices
