EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW:
cbr.com/everything-you-need-to-know-about-trials-of-mana
One of the most unique aspects of the original Trials of Mana is that it gave players the opportunity to choose their main character. In a way, it’s like choosing your class, since each has different strengths and play-styles. These characters also have different stories, that'll lead to different paths and dialogue.
For example, the Mage Angela is a Princess of the Magic Kingdom of Altena. She is banished by the power-hungry Queen, kick-starting the main plot. Throughout the game, her motivations are tied to her mother and the direction of the kingdom. Other characters have stories that intertwine with one another, like the Warrior Duran. While Duran is from a different kingdom, he often crosses paths with Angela. Players are also able to choose two more characters to complete their party. They are encountered along the way, and there's less focus on their backgrounds until much later in the game.
FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT:
There are six characters in total to choose from, giving the game a lot of replay value with the option to try different teams or learn about each character. This was a new concept for the SNES era, and it'll help Trials of Mana fit right in with modern RPGs.
The remake is expanding upon to character relationships by adding new conversations with English and Japanese voiceovers. While in towns, characters won’t stay with the player like they do in the original. Instead, they’ll be off doing their own things, and the player can choose to interact with them.
It doesn’t stop there for characters though. They also have their own classes, and at Levels 18 and 38, players are given the option to change classes and expand on spells and stats. It’s non-linear, and players can choose one of two branches each time: light or dark. This means that a single character has six class change options to choose from with different usages. The Warrior Duran’s light classes, for example, focus on protecting and healing, while his dark classes are about offense with spells that add elemental damage to weapons.

BIGGEST CHANGES IN THE REMAKE:
thegamer.com/trials-of-mana-biggest-changes-remake
By far the biggest change to Trials of Mana comes in the sound and visuals department. The original Trials of Mana was a 2D game on the Super Nintendo, but the remake has been built from the ground up for modern systems and uses a 3D world.
Trials of Mana lets the player choose between a new orchestral score or the one from the original game, both of which are excellent. The game also has voice acting, but the quality is all over the place. The player can choose between English and Japanese voice if they aren't impressed with the voices in their native language.
One of the benefits of the new 3D world in Trials of Mana is verticality, as the player can now jump, allowing them to access platforms in both cities and dungeons. There are now hidden items everywhere and the player is rewarded for exploring every nook and cranny of the game world. The player will also need to jump in battle, as some enemies will fly at them. The dungeons have also be redesigned and are closer to something out of a The Legend of Zelda game than the original Trials of Mana, which had almost no puzzles or diverging paths.
there's a demo available right now for PS4 and Switch (Japan eShop only but game comes in English)
i just finished the demo
my main is Kevin and my 2 others are Duran and Hawkeye
the intros for Kevin and Duran were so fun, but i wonder if we'll get a 2nd flashback for the 3rd character or if it's 2 intros and 1 endgame per playthrough?
and JSYK this game has 3 very different story endings (not alternate endings, different story based on character's chosen at the start)
Loved the demo. Might have to replay the original right quick before it drops
what 3 characters did u pick?
3 more weeks
god damn i NEED this right now
have gone outside 3 times the last 4 days and each time going out felt like a dystopian novel 🤢
