Fun movie other than the storm sequence
That all was too over the top
A complete s***show
Everything up to the lady trying to make the employee swim was really good, then everything after was fine to pretty good
I thought I’d like it much less since I was not feeling the square but it was definitely a good time
yo this is trash
this is good af. messy, but loaded to entertain and provoke. so many cool set pieces and interesting characters. I think I 'liked' something about basically everyone's performance here
Yeah how tf did this win the Palme d’Or

I haven't seen this but the fact that he won palme d'or for the square in 2017 is f***ing pathetic
horrible film. orson welles said that godard's messages in his films could be written on the head of a pin. if that's the case for godard, I'm not sure where östlund would fall.
the issue with östlund is that he thinks of himself as a serious thinker, a sociologist, to be specific, that believes that he has just discovered some kind of new theory regarding interactions among humans.
if he's anything, he's an anthropologist digging for bones – specifically swedes and scandinavians. his attempt at anything deep or philosophical in play, force majeure or the square are futile. i'm also at the disadvantage of being scandinavian too, so it's not as interesting to watch these films compared to someone who doesn't know much about scandinavia at all.
this film is different from his others from what i've heard, but I haven't seen it and quite frankly I'm not interested in anything östlund does at this point
and what the hell is it with östlund that he's so extremely fixated with social commentary that he accidentally (probably on purpose) makes a bloated piece of film that forgets to tell a story
the only piece that worked in the square was probably the very passive (read: scandinavian) confrontation of whoever the pickpocket was in the building and how it serves as a good tale against taking justice into your own hands

force majeur is a great story. in its simplicity. and so is this. for the exact opposite. not that art needs emphasis on narrative. so I don’t think he’s forgetting anything
also idk if it’s a problem to approach art from a sociologist or anthropologist perspective. there should be sociological and anthropological filmmakers, amongst all other sorts. I dunno if I’d even describe him that way but just saying, in general
why impose a epistemological hierarchy? it’s enough tools in the shed imo
This is my first Ostlund experience so I’m not as perturbed to what his movies are saying. As for this one I just feel like the execution of a lot themes feel very immature from a sociological standpoint. It is heightened to by the really natural performances in the movie which I do like a lot, but it doesn’t really help with the awful ending that makes all the tension rising up to that point seem pointless.
Now I had a good laugh in the movie sometime forsure, and I do like the not nuanced approach with rich people, but I can’t say it made me think or if there was something the movie was trying to say I have no clue if it was credible

Peeped this last night and absolutely loved it. First 2 acts are incredible.
It does lose a bit of steam in the 3rd act but it's not a huge fall off
very fun and entertaining
inconsistency and super on the nose social commentary hold it back from being truly great imo
kinda reminded me of Old mixed with White Lotus lol
