He’s not signed to republic though he’s signed to universal

He's not "signed" to Universal in terms of a standard record deal. He's signed to/releases his music through OVO Records but he has a licensing deal with Universal through Republic Records to exclusively distribute his records. He's essentially independent but even independent artists sign licensing deals with other companies for the distribution of their records.

For example, many artists who have distribution deals with EMPIRE are independent.

It’s actually kind of diff ngl

Before he was actually signed to Republic but now he leases his masters directly to UMG under an exclusive license I think

These are a couple of record labels which are subsidiaries of Universal Music Group:

    Abbey Road Studios
    Motown Records
    Polydor Records
    Def Jam Recordings
    Boominati Worldwide
    American Recordings
    Artium Recordings
    Brushfire Records
    Casablanca Records
    Darkroom
    Dreamville
    Getting Out Out Dreams
    KIDinaKORNER
    LVRN
    Quality Control Music
    Young Money Entertainment
    XO Records
    Fonivisa Records
    Edgeout Records
    Disa Records
    Eagle Records Entertainment
    Mercury Records
    Republic Records
    Universal Music Taiwan
    Universal Music Canada
    Universal Music Africa
    Universal Music UK
    Universal Music France
    Universal Music Japan
    Universal Music Sweden
    Universal Music Australia
    Universal Music New Zealand
    Universal Music Latin
    Universal Music Nashville
    Interscope Records
    Island Records
    Capitol Music Group
    Cash Money Records
    Virgin Records
    Aftermath Entertainment
    Shady Records
    G-Unit Records
    Decca Records
    Astralwerks
    Interscope Geffen A&M Records
Virgin Music Label & Artist Services
    Vertigo Records
    Minos EMI
    Deutsche Grammophon
    Sparrow Records
    Blue Note Records

There's still many more but basically, anyone signed to one of these labels is automatically signed to Universal Records.

It's like how if you work for Marvel Entertainment, you automatically work for the Walt Disney Company as well since they own Marvel Entertainment.

The difference with Drake's situation is that he only has a licensing deal with Universal (via Republic Records) and that deal can be up at any time. When that happens, it's up to him to either renew with them or go sign a deal with another distributor and he maintains ownership of his masters the whole time, he just basically agrees for them to have exclusive rights to reproduce, market and distribute his music for the period in which his licensing agreement with them remains.

0% chance that happens. Possible the song never existed and Trippie just added Drake's name for clout because this is confusing.

I doubt that. Drake liked it. Holding out hope there’s hidden songs because the leak is missing a couple songs

If the leak is missing some songs then I hope that's the case.

I wonder why and how his albums always leak. Very irresponsible how they haven't put a stop to that yet.
