is this so called plot progression in the room with us rn?
can you name anything plot wise that happened between minute 1 and 50?
😂
It’s not that slow man
And the pacing was better this episode than the last few
All subjective in the end tho!

Figuring out Annie was killed outside of town and brought in, where she was killed in the ice, Tagaq disappearance, everything about Heiss, Julie’s visions taking her to the ice to kill herself - saw same girl Navarro sees at the old crime scene with Danvers, in Julie’s vision wearing the cross Navarro found and threw out of her car last episode -, Danvers’ kid tagging the mine, more exposition re Danvers’ kid and the polar bear recurrence, I could go on —all plot points, you payin attn mate? Pacing is pretty similar to S1 in terms of the slow burn. No major reveals early on, major catalysts are inevitable in the next few episodes. It’s a mystery drama —
HBO used to stand for something, now they greenlighting bullshit like this and Tokyo Vice!
HBO used to stand for something is right though -
Set the standard for TV and is dead now
With a few exceptions everything legacy has been axed
Different team now with different priorities, partnerships for new project curated by previous leadership are dead. It’s a WB entity now top to bottom
TD is an og survivor
Also RIP South Side

you know what, you’re actually right. the plot progression was a lot better than the last few weeks, BUT
it still says a lot about it’s direction and narrating style when most people do not notice this at all
it’s like someone said in here a few pages ago, it just doesn’t stick if all of your characters are bland and show no personality except getting mad or simply being an a****** for the f*** of it
imo that’s the big difference between this season and the other ones. people used to have philosophies they based their decisions on. we just do not get that in here. they‘re mostly doing s*** just to do it. no solid reasoning or anything behind it
idk, maybe i shouldn’t have rewatched S1 before finishing this, but this whole season just seems pretentious and dead to me
S2-3 deniers you didn't know how good you had it!
I became an S2 guy bc I rewatched it leading up to this. there's a LOT wrong with it but I can see what they were going for and it's a really cool departure from S1
I bet if HBO had given Pizza at least another year to flesh it out it could've been amazing
That Mare show was boring af. Stopped at episode 2. Back to your point, I always thought Pizza and Cary Fukunaga helped each other or needed each other to bring results.
I agree up to a point. I quite enjoyed both season 2 and especially 3. But then again neither are season 1 level. Weird situation all around. Might be karma.
Also I can't believe they had the balls to show the Ice Caves so early in the intros. I noticed it way before it became a plot point and it'd be like showing glimpses of Carcosa before S1 finale
So we’re cool with there just deadass being some people that can see these walking dead spirits huh
HBO forced the True Detective branding to an original show, damn
One thing López didn't want to be compared to, at least at first, was to the first three seasons of True Detective. But, that's because when she envisioned the project originally, it had nothing to do with the show. López says she initially pitched an idea for a project called Night Country, which she describes as "a murder mystery in the ice," and it was HBO who suggested it could be True Detective instead — an idea she says never even crossed her mind. Once the two parties agreed, Night Country became True Detective: Night Country, and López had the unenviable task of "recalling what connected so powerfully with so many people around the world, but at the same time, doing it in your own voice and making it your own."

thinking of going back to this
first two episodes weren’t doing it for me the last time I tried
might get better for me the way that the Wire season 2 has

cancelling Winning Time was the dumbest s*** they’ve done recently
these reactions itt are interesting, I stopped after the first couple episodes but the viewings/ratings are popping with audiences
is this show popular with people irl at all, i honestly can’t tell

don’t try & group them together
Come on, man. You can't stop now. Sit it out with the rest of us..
Oh Danny my boy 😔 it’s over
Bro I'm glad they stopped it, if I had to watch old people f*** I was throwing my OLED off the balcony.

Makes a lot of sense tbh
Does Jodie really hate Twist and Shout because that one guy whistled it out of tune for a few seconds
It's likely because that's what was playing during some weird drunken driving incident that killed her child and maybe husband.
That's the vibes that I'm getting at least. It feels obvious without saying it.
What’s the consensus on s4? Started ep 1 and it seems promising. I enjoyed the showrunner’s past work
It's not bad, but it doesn't hit the highs of season 1.
There's not enough engaging material here for me to be really interested. I never watched season 2 and I was meh in 3 but this season isn't bad. I would say wait a week and binge all 6 episodes.

Might do just that
Havent seen s1 since it released gonna go back and rewatch

Like the dude before me said, from the ice caves and Otto Heiss to the dredge, etc., there was definitely significant movement on the case progression
But yeah, in general, they should've just made this a 4 episode miniseries to cut out the extra fat and create more dynamic plot movement, make it not related to TD, cut out the forced references to S1. & it probably would've been a lot better received.
& the irony is, if they would've done that, I bet 90% of twitter or reddit would've been like "This is what True detective should be like again"
