I’m liking this season. And 6 episodes is not too long.
I don’t really have any theories or anything but it’s pretty rad
I’m surprised HBO of all networks (as in, I’m not blaming Zaslav for this) was willing to risk tarnishing its name by doing this show without Pizza man
"without Pizza man"
I can never remember his name and call him the same thing 💀
I enjoyed episode 4. I’m not in love with the season, but this most recent episode went a long way in terms of allowing me to sympathize with some of the characters.
Navarro is just a joke. Feels s***ty calling out an actor on their freshman performance but it’s so beneath the title of the show. Like sometimes you can barely tell what emotion she’s going for or what she’s trying to convey with her stiff face and monotone voice
The laughable dialogue writing isn’t helping either. The directing/editing is often over-dramatic in those meaningless scenes about the lives of characters we have no good reason to care about, and confusing and silly during the paranormal parts.
Just bad bad bad
Kali Reiss is genuinely hard to watch. The script isn’t doing her any favors, but she is giving us nothing to work with. She’s so wooden.
Am I as bad of a detective as these two, or worse? A prediction of potential supernatural developments in the show based on a two second google and the showrunner’s previous film:
okay so let me not try to frame this in an ambling, reddity way. The last episode we saw that sick piece of spider graffiti in the dredge, probably the dopest thing in the whole series so far. Would you believe that there’s a corresponding piece of Native folklore? And does it tie in with the motherhood themes? There is indeed. Spider Woman, or Spider Grandmother: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spider_Grandmother
Now, are any of the tribes mentioned in the above article Alaskan? No. But she’s associated with the creation of life on earth (tangentially researched by the scientists), the ability to transcend planes of existence (which we’ve seen multiple times in the show, and which was a motivation for the killer in S1 - transcending the karmic wheel), and weaving (marks on the cut off native tongue came from repairing fishing nets). Where is she thought to live? In underground caves.I think that’s who they woke (“we woke her 😰”)
Riddle me this Battyman: how does one begin to spin a *web* of intrigue? 😏

This most recent episode ended so terribly I was baffled
What you mean? we ALL live in the night country now

Pizzolatto is a long ahh surname.
Watching season 3 for the first time and just finished episode 7
It’s good but goddamn is it slow
I feel like those who liked season 1 and hated 2 would get some enjoyment out of 3
I became an S2 guy bc I rewatched it leading up to this. there's a LOT wrong with it but I can see what they were going for and it's a really cool departure from S1
I bet if HBO had given Pizza at least another year to flesh it out it could've been amazing
The fact that he was able to knock out Season 2 in that short amount of time is still impressive even with all the flaws it has. It’s still an excellent season of television with a compelling set of characters
Frank and Ray’s arcs are very well done at the least

S3 boring, and I love Ali

Never been a season 2 hater. I always saw the vision. Liked it when it aired and like it now. It’s incredibly flawed but there’s a lot of good stuff too. Really wish they would have leaned more into the hard boiled noir much more but it is what it is.

So I can, so I can
See the supernatural that's before my eyes
S2 hate I kind of get even though I really like it, but S3 hate is insane to me

Vietnam is never handled well. I groan anytime it gets brought up in American media. Even s*** I liked such as The Holdovers. Swing and a miss everytime

s2 way better than s3 for me.
For now it goes
S1
S2 = S4 depending on the 2 remaining episodes
S3

Yeah did a single one Hollywood depiction actually explore the root of the conflict?

It's always some shoot and cry, they wouldn't let us win, look how scarred US soldiers are s***. Every time. Then you look at the numbers and it's a US escalated "civil war" that was just a genocide. That's the story.
The guy who wrote the books Full Metal Jacket is based on said the film wasn't anti-war enough and he's right! The books he wrote are fantastic and chilling. In the second one the protagonist defects and lives among the Vietnamese peasantry for a while. Becomes a part of the their village. Then the army flies in and butchers them. It's terrifying.

They’re not respecting the God Mahershala Ali.
Curious though, how’d you feel about the ending to season 3?
Anyone have any recs in a similar setting to S4? I feel like it’s suited to any kind of thriller/murder mystery show.
