The word “up” has a defined definition but we ask each other “what’s up”. Language is fluid, if the culture agrees on a new connotation for the word then it becomes part of the language. You’re being obtuse. It’s not changing the definition, if we’re talking about actual generations what you’re saying is still true. But because of the perception of the boomer generation, the word has taken on a slang meaning. Are you always anti-slang/figurative speech or is it just this one that bothers you? The word “starving” literally means to die from hunger but it’s used very often figuratively to just mean very hungry. It’s not factually correct it’s a figure of speech. The same thing applies here
