Just started watching the pilot for the first time — idk if it’s just because this was from the 80s or not, but the characters/acting feels crazy over the top exaggerated/overacted
And the principal just announcing the death of a student over the intercom the day it was discovered while schools in session?
think soap operas
think soap operas
Ahh yeah that's true
I liked the plot and artistic style so I'll def keep watching, but the acting through me off

David lynch is using the genre conventions of soap operas & melodrama to emphasize and extrapolate the themese of the show. Think about it and his way, its David Lynch’s TAKE on a TV show.

Also using the genres I mentioned as a means to communicate how the characters feel. It feels over the top because for those characters it is literally the most devastating event they've ever experienced

I’ve gotten to epi 14, but got stuck binging through true detective so I’ll finish Twin Peaks after s3 of Detective.
I have gotten accustomed to the style of The Return though.

I really loved the soap opera-ness of the second season.

You’ll grow to understand the language of the show in time dont worry lol
By the time you reach season 3 scenes like the exact one you pointed out will carry whole new meanings and ideas. Just loosen up a little and enjoy the ride
I also don't think its talked enough about how funny lynch is
his use of melodrama even in Mullholland Drive comes across as incredibly hilarious and then in no time completely subverted. This happens in TP all the time
Always tapped out in season 2 but finally finished it yesterday and watching fwwm right now. Banger

you aint ready for The Return
So update on my previous post: I really wanted to love this, but I just finished Season 1 and I'm still really having trouble connecting or caring.
Is there a good chance that I'll end up coming around to it if I continue, or is this just not for me?

Like… f***. She really was a tragic figure. I don’t understand what’s happening with the black lodge stuff at the end (in general) but damn the ending is just wow man.
