Another personal anecdote- my father was friends with a somewhat well known preacher in my city who attempted to minister to prominent members of the local mafia (yes a bit strange). After some time they came to really like this preacher- let him eat at their restaurants for free, recommended him lawyers, etc. This preacher’s son-in-law ends up having an affair and leaving his wife, and these mafiosos who he’s only somewhat acquainted with offer to kill him (yes, he stopped trying to preach to them after that). Not sure it’s especially hard to come into league w these guys, especially if you put on for a city/frequent their businesses often/etc.

Drake put on for the city of toronto so hard that he likely has a lot of respect from a lot of people in the city. And when he connects w young artists (who are involved with gangs) they are probably willing to take care of stuff for him, in a mutually beneficial way. Whether or not he actually does that though is probably anybodies best guess
