Better than 6pm, 4pm, 5am, do not disturb, diplomatic, and any other rappity rap song he ever made before. Drake showed why he's the greatest rapper on this song by simultaneously going at pusha T and Kid Cudi's headtop without even mentioning their name. The bars are also very relatable and will tug on your emotional strings as he raps about how his dad used to thin out soap bars, and how we all stay awake late at night, thinking about what we'd change in another life. Drake is always vulnerable, but this song feels different. It feels like we're listening to an audio version of the deepest, darkest, secrets. We're inside the man of a calculated battle rapper that never sleeps and has demons of his own and he's tired of holding them in.
This song really feels like Drake is just spilling his soul out. "Fuck the rap game", Drake raps. It sounds like he's fed up with all the fraudulent activity and betrayal from other rappers. Coming from Drake, the line sounds shocking, but you sympathize with him because you know it's true.
Not a single bar is wasted on this and each one is quote worthy. The placement of every single word is calculated with obsessive-like precision. With lines like, "Pin-ups of Meagan Good and Pam Grier
Soul sisters inspired my old scriptures
Now that feeling's gone like them old pictures", you can tell that Drake is purposely trying create a spiritual vibe with incredibly descriptive language and it's working.
The production on Two Birds One Stone is immaculate. It samples some kind of weird voice in the background that regularly "screams" in typical OVO sample fashion and adds another layer of emotion to the song. The subbass (is that what it's called?), or humming sound gives the song a vengeful dark vibe. Personally, it makes me imagine Drake in a batman suit atop of the CN Tower, watching over the rap game. 40's genius shines in this song. Each piece of the beat is perfectly placed. From the vengeful dark subbass, to the "screaming" sample that adds another layer of raw emotions to the song, to the drums and "knocking" sound that gives an introspective feeling.
Drake takes full advantage of the amazing subbass by building each section of his verse in the spaces between it, and releasing that built up tension when it returns.
Finally, Drake's lyrical assault at Pusha T is one of his best performances ever. He subtly starts it off by defending himself from the people who accuse him of being fake. Following that, he flips the accusations on Pusha T and points him out as a hypocrite. The man who has been accused of ghostwriting is now calling out other rappers. It's like seeing a bullied kid finally stand up for himself and start talking that s***. You feel for Drake in this moment of pure vulnerability. It needs be addressed. Drake follows it up by destroying Pusha T's entire persona in one single line, "you made a couple Chop's and now you think you Chapo".
This is one of the songs that can shut a hater up real quick. Bar your ass up real quick then give you some tropical flavors
✅
Criminally overhated. Great track. Probably not his best tho. Might be a top 10 post if you're reading this era
Besides the cudi shots (in my opinion weren't even bad people just wanted something to be mad about) there isn't much to hate about it. Think it proves that drake got to a crazy high point in his career coming off views where he could do no right in people's eyes. Basically like hov after blueprint. He was going to be hated for whatever he put out
flawless track
