Baby BeatsHe rapped on like every song on the album. If he sang on all the songs then I would get it but when 80% of your album is rapping people are going to throw it into the rap category despite what genre you put it in.
Just because a person raps doesn’t make the music rap music. A lot of genres utilize rapping, but are still categorized by their sound because they are other genres.

The fact that no black artist has received AOTY this decade for creating hiphop/rnb music is a testament to the cultural disconnect between grammy voters and the art form itself.

Igor to me is alternative pop with hip hop, RnB and electronic influence in the same vein as blonde or negro swan etc but i think this fight is ultimately a blurry one
Does igor deserve to be seen as the same as taylor swift or ariana albums? Hell no
What about lorde or lana del ray albums? Possibly
It’s just hard to dissect
Maybe they should create an alt pop category but tht just make the pop category, which they’ve normally used to highlight both art pop (lorde, billie etc) and radio pop acts more bland and all the “talent” would be in the new category so idk
No easy solution

If lorde or billie created igor, the record would have 100% be categorized as a Pop album in the same way that Beyonce creating 21 (By Adele) would have pigeonholed into the urban contemporary category, which is basically AOTY for black music
