In theory you're not wrong but the thing is, no matter what Tyler said he always took his craft seriously. Lyrically he was severely lacking, often relying on shock value, but he created a unique sound, and not too long into his career did he take his song writing more seriously. For that he's earned my respect personally and I'm sure most fans feel the same way.

Ian on the other hand? He's just a pale imitation of Atlanta rappers. There's not much artistry to speak of outside of just saying he's good at adopting that specific style. I think it's fair that someone like Tyler criticize Ian in that regard, because I don't think Ian really cares about the genre outside of being a fan of niggas like Carti. Because of that we'll never get a generation of artists that were really influenced by Ian the same way that a lot of newer artists were inspired by OF to create "outsider rap" to coin a tern.
