“There’s another political advantage to supporting such laws. Since pro-gay support is seen as a Western influence, promoting anti-gay laws allows politicians to not only tout their religiosity, but also be seen as standing up to those attempting to infringe upon their sovereignty. And on a continent so heavily shaped by colonization, the case against imperialism can be an easy, and winning, argument to make. Ironically, many of the laws prohibiting homosexuality that some countries are now considering expanding upon are, in fact, relics of colonial rule”
This is another good article on this subject

Has there been historic homosexuality in Uganda and Nigeria?
Okay I am unsure if you were inquiring about homophobia or homosexuality- so I’ll answer both.
Homosexuality has existed for centuries, it’s documented in every single community geographically.
In many indigenous communities, being gay and trans was not abnormal or uncommon. Many different religious groups as well have deities that are multi-gender expressive; or non gender conforming.
Specifically in Africa, many Yoruba gods/goddess’ are multi/gender (nonconforming) expressive.
I’ll link some things on this too for you if you’re interested in reading more.
Homophobia- there’s a history of this in every community touched by imperialism. in many backgrounds of these countries (colonizers) fierce punishment was used against individuals who are gay. This is predominately related to the Crusades+ prior dominance of Catholicism. Plus; the violence of homophobia in these communities I guarantee is 100% percent worse than we can fathom.
anyways here’s the articles: minorityafrica.org/homosexuality-predates-colonialism-it-is-homophobia-thats-new

I urge you to reread what I said as well as the articles in full, because I’ve already answered that question for you.
Homosexuality is normal lmao
Homophobia comes from imperialism idk what else to tell ya
imagine this; homosexuality is seen as bad by a colonizer- colonizer violently assualts someone because of that behavior- then later down the line homosexuality is bad as it’s been used against us-
that’s the best way I can explain it.
Aye this ain’t funny but it was one nigga doing the Kobe celebration when they announced it
you not in touch with your roots obviously and it’s sad. acting like a tough nigga for white mans likes
It’s funny you bringing this up considering slavery has a lot to do why most black Americans ain’t in touch with their roots, but go off
