By material gains I mean a decrease in police spending, improvements in voting opportunities for AA and other minorities, reparations in some form from Jim Crow and Slavery, actually working to build cleaner affordable housing instead of keeping BP in section 8 housing

The lamest thing about Section 8 (and govt assistance in general) is that the income threshold for keeping it is too low. Once you start making over that, the government is like "OK cool you don't need this support anymore" even if you're only making like $100 more per month.
You're basically forced to be poor to live with support or be poor and live with no support...

Mar 24, 2023·editedthis s*** had me uneasy yesterday, I'm not one to ever really take anything to heart like this, but this change had me frankly disgusted. Not even just the law that was passed, but the response to it online was bad. I'm aware that it is a very small population commenting online and I shouldn't be so upset over it but the things that people were saying is just insane. I mean people were saying things with complete disregard to the fact that gay people are still people. This type of aggression and acceptance of homophobia comes directly from peoples misunderstandings and the over saturation of the LGBTQ in the media. If people on the right just had a little more understanding for what being queer truly means and if people on the left stopped trying to shove the LGBTQ in every corner of existence, I think things would be a lot easier to solve. The fact that the human right to love without judgement has become so political just sickens me. Now I am not too knowledgeable by any means and I have barley experienced anything in life yet but, I've learned that obsessing over another's choices is unhealthy and destroys you from the inside. I just wish people were a little more tolerable, but I'm aware that there is a lot of work to be done to get there. Of course, the 'left' and the 'right' are not present across the globe so I do not really understand much about the rest of the worlds thought process, but these are just my thoughts for how I feel about things here in the states. But, I am trying to educate myself on how people think about things in different parts of the world.
