can someone link me to the details of the bill in Florida? can't lie this ugandan one seems extreme asf, if they're planning on doing this in FL i would be shocked

    williamsinstitute.law.ucla.edu/publications/impact-dont-say-gay-parents

"On March 28, 2022, the Florida Legislature passed HB 1557, the “Parental Rights in Education” bill, also dubbed the Don’t Say Gay bill. This bill prohibits classroom instruction on sexual orientation or gender identity before the 4th grade and requires such instruction to be “age-appropriate or developmentally appropriate thereafter."

"Many are concerned that the bill will not only result in restricted or nonexistent education about the existence of diverse sexual and gender identities, but it will result in a chilly or hostile school climate for LGBTQ educators, students, and families because it suggests that something is wrong with LGBTQ identities."

"Based on surveys of 113 LGBTQ+ parents, this study represents a first look at how HB 1557 is negatively affecting LGBTQ+ parent families in the state. Almost 9 out of 10 (88%) LGBTQ+ parents are very or somewhat concerned about the impact that HB 1557 will have on them and their children, with one in four reporting they have experienced anti-LGBTQ harassment since the law was passed and one in five reporting becoming less out in their communities since the law was passed."

"Parents have considered a variety of coping strategies in response to the bill, including moving out of the state (56%) and moving their children to a different school (11%). Over 16% of LGBTQ parents have already taken steps to move their families to another state."

relatively, yes. we're better than a lot of countries worldwide I don't think it's farfetched to deny that.

However, there are literal states in this country that LGTBQIA+ people do not feel safe in and they don't have the agency or the money to just "move" out.

However, America and the west have played a part in the destabilization of all these same third-world countries and their backwards ways of thinking when it comes to things like LGTBQIA+ issues.

it's not soft to point out the hypocrisy in Americans downing African countries like they dumb when Florida is tryna make it illegal for girls to talk to their teachers about periods before they turn 16.

it's nuance on both sides that niggas aint really getting and I get it this a pretty heated subject.

Usually I'm already throwing insults at this point, but two things can be true.

America is ahead of a lot of African countries (by perception, and in their defense nobody saying this is saying America is perfect) but America has played a VERY CRUCIAL part in why a lot of African countries have yet to improve.

Americans quick to say f*** their country when there's another mass shooting but look how they vehemently defend it American pride is something else fr

we're objectively more progressive on those type of issues but to say that we've "solved" them is ridiculous

Yes america and europe is the reason why most of these africans countries are behind. I don't see why acknowledging that they are actually behind is a bad thing.

And I'm saying this as someone that's Nigerian. Other africans will litteraly say the same thing, never met any africans that would say African countries haven't been f***ed and behind in terms of progress as they should be
