obviously not genre wise, but from an aesthetic and structural standpoint they’re similar to me
What aesthetic are you referring too? Bad Bunny takes sounds from all over the Diaspora including Hip Hop and RnB while SZA sticks to more of a Hip Hip production.
Brazilians have made some of the most beautiful music of all time and I can't understand very much Portuguese at all. Doesn't stop me from loving the music though.

I’ve only gotten into Gal Costa’s music thus far, but I feel as though there’s much more to digest. What would you recommend as far as Brazilian music is concerned?

both albums sound like summer music to me…idk how else to describe it tbh but growing up in FL, it just sounds like something i’d play at the beach. it doesn’t help that both albums have artwork that are bright and feature a big body of water

Jorge Ben is the GOAT 🚫🧢

If you like Gal... Caetano Veloso stuff from that era is a no-brainer, he wrote Baby, for example. Also Nara Leão for similar lush.
Milton Nascimento, Lo Borges - Clube da Esquina is an essential listen, even though I like Lo Borges first two solo albums more.
Nelson Angelo e Joyce
Geraldo Vandré if you're into folk
Sá e Guarabyra and Lula Cortes e Zé Ramalho if you're into psych folk
Djavan
And on and on...

Gal is a great starting point, but there are so many other legends:
Jorge Ben (my GOAT)
Os Mutantes
Caetano Veloso
Gilberto Gil
Milton Nascimento
Tim Maia
Tom Ze
Lo Borges
Nara Leao
THE tropicalia album, for many listeners, is Clube da Esquina by Milton Nascimento and Lo Borges. A straight up masterpiece 10/10 classic.
Jorge Ben has a staggering discography. A Tabua de Esmeralda, Forca Bruta and Africa Brasil are all equally great starting points. I've never heard a bad record from him.
Os Mutantes is essential listening for psych rock fans. Any of their first three albums would be fine starting points but I would go chronologically.
There's so much I'm leaving out. This year alone, Tim Bernardes and Bala Desejo put out two of my favorite records, both Brazilian acts. That culture gave us an endless well of great music.
SOS. I don't understand a lick of what my Puerto Rican brother is saying but he winning so s/o to him

Whoa, thank you VERY much.
Un Verano Sin Ti is one of the greatest albums of all time. I’m talking TPAB, Illmatic, Purple Rain, MBDTF, Kid A level.
