How do y’all feel about rappers like Planet Asia, Fashawn, Blu etc?
theyre in a tricky position now because they clearly belong to a prior generation of underground rap fans and to me its apparent that they dont really connect with the younger guys. only ones left to rely on is either Griselda fans who dont stick around for too long or 40 year olds who dont go to concerts and dont buy merch like that. I guess blu is a bit of an exception but fashawn planet asia skyzoo guilty simpson all fit into what I described
idk how theyre doing 'on the ground' and if theyre still getting stable shows. I just assume everybody has a day job by now, this rap s*** doesn't pay in this economy

Planet Asia never really clicked for me.
ALC put me on to Fashawn, but that was only one project lol. I remember this freestyle / cypher him and Blu did and Blu went crazy. Never listened to Fashawn after that
Big fan of Blu but honestly fell off his discography when this Underground Renaissance started and niggas started dumpin (2018)

Another thing too, there is too much money out here in this music economy. Putting together a great project, selling vinyls, amazing merch, touring, selling publishing, commercials, etc. etc. etc.
They're older but they would just need a solid creative team around them and focus on making high quality projects

This independent space is great because there is money out there for everybody. Nobody has to sell a crazy amount of records because who is really selling records right now, outside of maybe 10% of the rap industry? Touring, features, merch, licensing and branding has been the way to go.
All of those guys are constantly on the road touring. You can't have a day job if you're on the road all the time.
