Golden age?! Jesus f***ing christ. Just to be clear. Somewhere between dope and decent:
Ka, Roc Marciano, billy woods, Elucid, Westside Gunn, Conway the Machine, Benny the Butcher, Stove God Cook$, Action Bronson, Meyhem Lauren, Che Noir, Fly Anakin, Koncept Jack$on, Big Kahuna OG, Boldy James, Starker, YL, loji, Maxo, Navy Blue, Willie the Kid, Rome Streetz, Evidence, Blu, Planet Asia

Everyone else is just some wack netcee garbage. Without the Internet those dudes would be f***ing UPS delivery drivers. When do they perform live?

Late 90s-mid-2000s is the underground golden age when dudes were dropping pure fire and touring the world performing but still living like regular dudes. Now we got these entitled Bandcamp OBI $1000 album chumps clogging up the game. And ya'll trustfund kids too dumb and too soulless to see the real anymore. Damn shame.

Between Ka, Roc Marci, Mach (as much as you may disagree), woods + Elucid, and Griselda, it’s definitely a special time. Those dudes alone make it a golden era to me

Well yeah those dudes minus Mach definitely are creating dope music. Not a single piece of me disagrees with that, even if I think it pales into comparison to the era I spoke on but maybe I'm wrong to compare. In fact f*** it I am wrong to compare. Each era has its merits.

Let's put some respect on A.G. and Ray West's names though, they undoubtedly influenced a lot of this post-2010 sound. Roc was messing with them heavy prior to Reloaded.

Not gonna go there with you bout Mach

And I'm not discrediting earlier gens at all. In fact I'm not even saying this is is the best era OAT. But yeah, I do acknowledge that these dudes wouldn't be doing what they were doing if it weren't for their influences and figures who came before them. Salute to earlier generations for sure

I just wanna praise this era's geniuses, Ka, Roc, woods (and Mach). I know all of them are huge hip hop heads and respect their predecessors

Word. But there's some notable names missing. A.G. and Ray West for sure got to be on this list. eLZhi surely got to be there? Skyzoo? Dunbar? Bigal Harrison? Le$? Payroll Giovanni? Larry June? So many dudes with loyal followings, but float below mainstream attention.

Dunbar (Sure Shot x Bunchy Cartier) you need to get on if you're not.

why are you hating on the internet aspect that much

it's a great accomplishment that underground artists are able to publish their music the way they want while making maximum profit with it

if the music is good, it'll translate into a real fanbase
if it's not, mysterious releases are not going to help either

90s was obviously the real dope underground golden era but in terms of a more visible independent scene the late 90s-early 2000s s***s all over the current scene (even though there are some dudes who I agree are f***ing dope as hell).

Cunninlynguists, Oktober, Natural Elements, People Under The Stairs, Zion I, Aceyalone, Black Milk, Elzhi, Sean Price, Skyzoo, Cannibal Ox, Murs, Loer Velocity, Little Brother, Madlib, Masta Ace, MF DOOM, Hieroglyphics, Dilated Peoples, Planet Asia, One Be Lo, Phat Kat, Oh No, Company Flow, Blackalicious, Self Scientific, MF Grimm, Jean Grae, The UN, C-Rayz Walz, O.C., Buckshot, Reks, AG, Sadat X, Royce Da 5'9".

That's just off the top. This thread is embarrassing unless you delete like 70% of that list. Then we good.

I heavily disagreed with you about the Mach stuff (still do) but these are some insane mentions lmao. It's cool to see dudes like these get some acknowledgement on here. Also huge coincidence you name dropped One Be Lo, Masters of the Universe has been on repeat for me the last couple of days

2017 to 2020 is trash imo, but was fire from 2010 to 2016.

My favorite era will always be the internet mixtape (s/o datpiff & mixtape monkey) & youtube loosies underground tho that was heavy from 2008/2009 to 2014/2015ish.

Finding Kendrick's KLEP randomly online & TDE loosies on youtube before anyone really gave af about them was my whole personal huge introduction into the modern underground scene back in 09. So much different styles & creativity going back then during that era from all regions

    Its been on ever since

Well put dude. 2010-2015 was genuinely f***in crazy for popular rap.

Yeah bro seems like underground has been consistently fire since the 90s. Then the DOOM era, and now it’s just full of these geniuses, like the first few mentioned in OP

    It’s beautiful to see

The best thing i loved abour 2010s era besides i grew up heavy in ut is how varoed & accepting a lot of styles were.

From experimental, to brining back 90s, to street, to party to even s*** like "suburban frat rap" & pop rap lmao. Was such a wild west time & all of it was getting great publicity & attention. That's the main positive & strength of that era imo. Probably the most varied so far.

I agree. It's been fire & the underground is still going hard. No matter what you prefer.

Tbh I think hip-hop has always been dope, if you know where to look then there’s always been so much dope music. All states, mainstream to underground. We all have those little eras and spikes of preference but ain’t never been a point when I was lost for music to bump. It’s a beautiful thing.
