CEOs literally the most useless beings.
If I was a CEO i'd literally want to feed as much money to the people working for me as possible but I'm not a pyschopath so I can't be a CEO.
On my way to bankrupt a small indie dev by installing, deleting, then reinstalling their game 20 cents at a time
I don't think that's how that works.
Isn't this similar to how Reddit is running s***?
There's no option other than moving to another engine or stop paying money to Unity until they reverse their decision.
Some nerd crunched the numbers and it's still cheaper than Unreal
Sometimes social media is just hype I guess. Only people who would suffer are advergames.
The only true issue is how Unity tracks installs and if they can determine what is a true install or a fraudulent one?

Man it’s not about the price it’s the fact that it’s retroactive and they and changing stuff that no dev agreed to. They want to be retroactively paid for ALL INSTALLS.
But mobile games are actually f***ed cause they are either free or like 99 cents
That’s a .20 fee for a free install or 20% for a 99 cent install… when Apple already takes 30%
also that graph assumes 1 purchase = 1 install when we know thats not gonna be true at all

Morally it's bad I agree.
However from what I see is that Unity is just a software they let you use if you pay for it. It doesn't seem like you own anything with the software, so the risk was always there.
I hope they actually back off instead of saying "fuck you guys" like Adobe lol
Not advocating for this ever, but what do you expect when you literally threaten the livelihoods of your ENTIRE clientele over the most selfishly destructive bullshit imaginable?
i really hope devs dont accept or worse propose a "middle ground" for this. Unity broke their own TOS and hid it to draft up one that allows charging any user regardless of engine license. they dont get to throw s*** at the wall and then ask how much of that s*** devs would be fine with leaving up. they deserve a full pushback on this.
wouldn’t be surprised if this came from a disgruntled dev
they’re really trying to f*** over peoples lives with this

It apparently came from a unity employee per local PD
I didn't look thru the post but did y'all see the cult of lamb people tweeted they will completely taking the game down on Jan 1 because of this lol
"If you want it buy it now" they said - I do recommend it heavily too fwiw
I don't think that's how that works.
