Lighthouse big improvement from the Witch
kinda funny first time I watched the witch it was a 5/5 for me. still like it a lot on rewatches but doesn’t give me the same instant classic vibes
saw lighthouse in theaters and liked it didn’t love it. have seen it again 3 times and I like it more each time

Like I loved a lot of things about the witch. The black Phillip scene, the atmosphere, the production design was insane. Still couldn’t help be ungodly bored by the movie by the end of it though. Lighthouse though instantly loved and was super entertaining. The aesthetic and Pattinson and dafoe were incredible
I like how you can easily tell anyone who hasn't watched any anime besides popular shonen when they say stuff like this
Anime slander is so dumb, imagine saying all that when it has better s*** than most tv rn
most of new black hollywood directors & writers are bougie neo-liberal hacks who have none of the integrity of Melvin Van Peebles, Marlon Riggs or Julie Dash.
Man of Steel and BvS were the last great comic book films.

Agree with first part (aside from a good chunk of Barry Jenkins' filmog and Khalik Allah).
Havent seen MoS or BvS so i cant speak on the second part. But it doesn't take much to make something better than MCU movies anyway so i wouldnt be surprised

As much as I love him I’m afraid Barry won’t be able to break away from the trappings of racist Hollywood expectations and now he’s working for Disney which makes me even more concerned for his career.

Yeah most of his shorts are incredible. I'm not hyped on Moonlight at all, but Beale Street was really really great.
So yeah im bummed about him doing lion king bullshit too Don't plan on watching it, but just going off the how they pushed the first one as some kind of (monolithic) cultural statement is enough for me to steer very clear of it :(

I like it, i'm just not in love with it by any means. I dont think its bad or anything, just closer to average than what i was expecting. Beale Street blew it out the water for me, and a few of his shorts are more interesting

There was a #blackAF episode about your first point. I think people want to work and get rich more than stay true.
game of thrones season 8 was good. not nearly as good as other seasons, and the pacing was quicker than i would have liked, but the broad story strokes executed martin's vision and it was a technical marvel of television production
It wasn’t the worst thing ever, I’ll say that
Besides the 3 seasons before itit weren’t that much better
It’s not mid; it’s f***ing awful. I’ve yet to see an anime that grasps the basic concept of subtle exposition. Every character aggressively explains their intentions. And the overacting? What the f***?
It’s a second-rate genre.
Miyazaki, plebian

Black directors are always put in a box. The new criteria for this box being trauma or wokeness p***. Both made for white liberal understanding.
Right now Black directors are being given more opportunities to direct sci-fi, horror & fantasy but only if the stories revolve around black trauma.
Was anybody forcing GOT to finish up? That last season was really rushed and should have been stretched to another season. Imagine anticipating GOT season finale in this pandemic

They were rushing themselves
The ratio of worth watching anime is like 1 out of 20. Thats being generous
More like 1 out of 50
