Not sure if I said it but I think Top Gun Maverick deserved a Best Movie Oscar. S*** single handedly revived the theaters after 2 years of decline due to COVID and it has what every classic summer blockbuster should have (plot, characters, script). Not to mention the fact that it is amazingly directed.

Incredibly fun movie to watch. Delivered on all fronts.

White Lotus and Succession are the worst thing to happen to TV in a minute.

They’re shows that idealize the rich but are too insecure to say it outright, so it turns into critic bait with a contrived satire angle

I don't think we're meant to idealize most of the characters on these shows. Very intentionally written to be flawed and unlikeable people

  • I understand the importance of representation, and equal opportunity, but when people make arguments like for instance right now on my TL some people have a problem with the Bob Marley movie they’re doing. Saying that they wish they got an actual Jamaican to play him. This is where you lose me. It’s acting . Other than the person needing to physically look the part, the notion that you need an actual Jamaican to play Bob Marley is ridiculous to me. Now if the actor they chose can’t do a believable Jamaican accent then that’s just bad casting.

This is partly why I think actors & actresses going forward should be bilingual at minimum. One it expands their range, and depending on the language it can extend their careers if they so choose. Actors should be putting in the work to learn these dialects if the role is calling for it.

Zero Dark Thirty is better than Oppenheimer. I appreciate Kathryn Bigelow's attention to detail just way more that illustrates how powerful the CIA is just by having a vast network of regular people around the world sharings bits and pieces of intel and it's all coming together like a puzzle to provide the president with the big picture and make a decision. Bigelow's approach works for me because she understood that there was no need for dramatic scenery and music. The story by itself was more than enough. However both movies would have been more interesting if they would have stuck to what actually happened than what directions and cuts Bigelow and Nolan went for ultimately.

  • Ross was actually THE best character in Friends. David Schwimmer is a great comedy actor and all the crazy stuff that happened with Ross constantly like the dirty girl, the white teeth, the leather pants was one of the best parts of the show – who really cares if he’s “problematic”? 😭

  • Films need to do a better job at killing off characters; it's getting predictable. Nowadays when you see a happy scene that's too happy, you know some s***'s about to go down. I wish there would be a scenario whereby characters that love each other are going through a rough patch, and one of them is killed off, so that the story is much more than revenge for example, and is mixed with regrets etc.

Might get crucified for it but early Two and a Half Men is honestly not that bad. I think it's a decently entertaining sitcom, better than the likes of something like Big Bang Theory.
Definitely very outdated in how it handles the female characters and all though.
The 2 leads definitely carry it a lot though.

I dont think this is a hot take tbh. I think that show is usually considered decent and definitely better than BBT
