Damn your rap opinions just as accurate as your vaccine development timeline ones. That's crazy

Here is the attention you are dying for.

Using Metacritic or the Grammy's to claim that Kendrick has a better discography than Hov or other OG rappers like Nas or Wayne doesn't tell the whole story.

4:44, Life Is Good, and C2 may not be more critically acclaimed than DAMN but I still wouldn't say DAMN is better than them.

Doesn't take away from Kendrick being a great rapper and artist. He's in my top 10 but ya'll gotta chill with falling back on critics and the Grammy's then switching your opinion when Good News gets high ratings and the Weeknd gets snubbed...lol.

Nah, I’d take at least 3 jay albums over it. It is Kendrick a best though and a classic

I don’t care what you would personally take. Hov doesn’t have an album that is as good as TPAB

I don’t agree but even if you were right the worst songs on DAMN are much worse than the weaker tracks on 4:44

The highs on damn are much higher though with more highlights imo.

Critical acclaim has always been used historically as a metric for hip hip though.

4:44 is good for a legend in the tail-end of his career but the replay value (especially considering its a more concise album), isnt as high as DAMN.

  • Jan 5, 2021

Both classics, DAMN is a bit better tho

    Not necessarily.

GRODT, The Eminem Show, The Documentary, TM101, Stillmatic, and 808's and Heartbreak don't have a Metacritic score above 80 but they're still help up high.

Basically, it can go either way. Some albums like TPAB, MBDTF, Illmatic, Madvillainy, and Supreme Clientele are definitely masterpieces and have the acclaim to back it up.

But there's plenty of albums with meh reviews that still mean a lot to the culture and are help up high.

@Bmezy Absolutely agree, krit also had a better album than Kendrick that year and I’d also rather HNDRXX personally DAMN. Not even top 3 hiphop albums 2017. And if we also include “underground” artists, Rosebudd’s revenge was better, so was Rome by Armand hammer, so it’s not even top 5 for me personally

Rome still gets spins from me today😩🙏🏾

Agree on replay value, but DAMN was literally curated for the top 40 (especially since hip hop was really beginning to tighten its grip on pop radio and culture in general) ..catchy hooks, memorable melodies (loyalty loyalty loyalty) and accessibility for the masses. Sounds like a standard blockbuster album to me. Kendrick is still a great artist and MC so the quality in depth would always be there

These were the general consensus top 2 rap albums of 2017. Now if you had said 4eva Is A Mighty Long Time>DAMN then you would’ve been cooking with fish grease

The Story of O.J. and 4:44 the only songs that come close to the best songs on Damn.

Smile and Marcy Me are top tier songs

  • Jan 5, 2021

Both pretty similar for me but it comes down to pride/fear versus 444 title track/ oj
