yeah you can tell a lot of the scores gtav got were factoring in how big of a leap it made from gta4. it was a s*** ton of hype for gta return, los santos, graphics, online, map size, etc,

gameplay and story wise it was the usual gta but now we got 3 mcs. i remember ppl talking about returning it in 2013 but then online saved it, and then it got saved by heists.

If they actually used all the money they made to massively expand there'd be a chance. Creatures, the company that works mainly on Pokemon models and animations, is around 200 employees and idk how they can make dozens of different animations for each Pokemon and moves, especially since they keep also changing the 3d models. Nintendo needs to impose their will cause while not totally owning pokemon, they're still 1/3 of the pokemon company and publish the games

Patents really need to be completely scrapped and revamped. Ruins progression, and innovation in the industry. Like WB patenting the Nemesis System in Shadow of Mordor, and not using it in any of their up coming games at all is just ridiculous. Stifles the industry as a whole. It's a gaming system that could truly change the way we engage with NPCs in games, and it's locked behind a patent that isn't being used.

Id say that atm more than patents its consumer's tastes that influence game design decisions. If the devs and companies cared about using ai to influence npc reactions like in Shadow of Mordor we'd get something like that, but the casuals care more about big budget cinematics with realistic visuals at 4k. Money isnt infinite and so resources will go to whatever the average person likes, and good graphics is an easier sell than an advance system that makes npc interactions everchanging depending on player actions. Ever since learning about it thats part of what ive wanted games to evolve towards, but i just accepted that the market just doesnt care at large about this stuff yet
